interior Design Consultations
At SaltStone Design, our 1-2-1 design consultations are for those seeking expert guidance without the commitment of a full design service.
Ideal for smaller-scale projects or specific design challenges, this offering provides focused, professional direction for your project so that you can move forward with clarity and confidence. We offer in-person consultations for clients within Cambridgeshire and East Anglia, alongside virtual consultations, allowing us to support clients wherever they are based.
With today’s wealth of interior brands, independent makers and online sources, there has never been more choice. Yet that abundance can quickly become overwhelming. Choosing the right room layout that optimises your space and reflects the way you wish to live can also be difficult to get right. Knowing what works, where to invest and how to create a cohesive scheme requires a trained eye and a clear strategy.
That’s where we come in.
We remove the guesswork and refine your decisions. Whether you’re refreshing a single room, reworking a layout, selecting finishes, or sourcing those final layers that bring a space together, we provide considered, practical advice rooted in strong design principles. We help you clarify your vision, refine your palette, assess scale and proportion, and ensure your choices work harmoniously within your architecture and lifestyle, and align to your budget.
Following your consultation, we’ll send you an Inspiration and Sourcing Board so that you leave with clear direction, actionable recommendations and renewed confidence to move forward.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Booking your interior design consultation is simple. Visit our Contact page and complete the enquiry form, or email us directly with details about your project, including the rooms you’d like help with and your goals.
Our team will guide you through availability, recommended session length, and next steps to secure your appointment.
-
The right session length depends on the scope of your project.
A one-hour interior design consultation is ideal if you have specific questions about layout, colour schemes, furniture placement or styling. Many clients are pleasantly surprised at how much clarity and direction can be achieved in a focused 60-minute session.
If you’d like support with multiple rooms or require more in-depth design advice, we typically recommend booking two to three hours. We’re happy to advise on this when you enquire.
-
Our virtual interior design consultations take place via video call, allowing you to receive professional design advice wherever you’re located.
During the session, you can:
Walk us through your space using your device’s camera
Share photographs, floor plans or inspiration images
Ask detailed design and sourcing questions
Receive tailored feedback aligned with your style and budget
Each consultation is collaborative and flexible. There’s no rigid structure. We focus entirely on your priorities, whether that’s refining a layout, sourcing furniture, or developing a cohesive interior design scheme.
-
There are several easy ways to share your space during a virtual design session:
Live walkthrough via your phone, tablet or laptop camera
Sending photographs in advance for review
Sharing floor plans, measurements or mood boards
Using screen-share to review inspiration or product links together
Many clients choose to email images ahead of time so we can maximise the consultation by focusing immediately on solutions and recommendations.
-
Preparation can be as detailed or minimal as you prefer. To make the most of your time, we suggest gathering:
Photos of the room(s) you’d like help with
A short list of questions or design challenges
Inspiration images that reflect your taste
Floor plans or measurements (if available)
Links to furniture or décor you’re considering
After booking, we’ll send guidance via email to help you prepare and ensure you feel confident ahead of your session.
-
Yes - sourcing advice is a key part of our interior design consultancy service.
During your consultation, your designer can recommend furniture, lighting, textiles, décor and accessories tailored to your space, aesthetic preferences and budget. Recommendations may include new pieces, vintage finds, antiques or bespoke made-to-order items sourced from a wide range of suppliers.
We suggest having a second device available during the call so you can easily open, review and save product links as they’re discussed.
-
Yes, we provide on-site interior design consultations at the project location for clients who prefer face-to-face support.
In-person sessions are subject to a minimum three-hour booking to allow sufficient time for a thorough review of the space and detailed design guidance.
-
Our online interior design consultations are hosted via Microsoft Teams or Zoom, as these platforms allow us to deliver a seamless and professional experience.
Using the app provides the best performance, though it’s not essential. An up-to-date web browser such as Chrome, Safari or Edge will also support the meeting.
-
If it becomes clear that you’d benefit from additional time, we’ll let you know as your session draws to a close.
Where our schedule allows, we can extend your consultation on the day. Alternatively, we can arrange a follow-up appointment to continue developing your design plans.
-
Consultation fees are payable in advance to confirm your booking. Once your appointment is scheduled, you’ll receive an invoice outlining the session duration and payment details.
If you choose to extend your consultation beyond the original booking, any additional time will be invoiced after the session.
-
We understand that plans can change. If you need to cancel or reschedule your interior design consultation, please notify us as soon as possible.
Cancellations made up to 48 hours prior to your scheduled session can be rescheduled or refunded.
Appointments cancelled within 48 hours of the consultation time will be non-refundable, as we reserve dedicated time in our schedule for each client.
If you need to rearrange your session, we will always do our best to accommodate a new date that works for you.
